Absurdity Index

https://absurdityindex.org
United States of America 🇺🇸

A non-partisan satirical commentary site that scores real federal legislation on a 1-10 Absurdity Index scale, with every factual claim linked to authoritative sources like congress.gov.

Absurdity Index launched in 2025 as an open-source, non-partisan civic tech project. It uses satire to make federal legislation more accessible and engaging for everyday citizens. The site scores real congressional bills on a 1-10 "Absurdity Index" scale and also publishes satirical "sensible bills" -- legislation so reasonable no actual Congress would pass it. Every factual claim links to authoritative sources (congress.gov, law.cornell.edu, official roll calls). Built with Astro 5 and hosted on Cloudflare Pages, the site provides a JSON API for programmatic access to bill data. It is open-source under the MIT license. People can help by sharing bills, suggesting new legislation to cover, or contributing to the codebase.
