Building Values-Aligned AI for Mission-Driven Organizations. We’re justice-minded technologists and communicators who believe generative AI is too powerful to leave in the hands of those who prioritize shareholder value over social good.

Change Agent was born out of a question from a colleague at leading civil rights organization Community Change Action in the fall of 2023: “can you build an AI platform that’s for us?” As in for a values-first nonprofit, a justice-minded organization dedicated to the communities it serves.

We’d spent years watching an ugly cycle take root between Big Tech and the social sector—they promise the world when they need our causes to burnish their reputation, then jack up prices when we depend on their tools. We rely on their privacy guarantees and their carbon reduction commitments only for them to exploit our data and renege on their climate action. Silicon Valley extraction at AI scale could not stand.

Also, Big Tech was never going to build to our needs. Their language is not our language. Their values are not our values. Our workflows are not their priority. So we built our own AI.
